Of "Manouche" origin, Christophe Lartilleux-Hart, was brought up in a travelling circus (Hart-Goujon), run by gipsy
performers and musicians. he was taught to play by his father, Yvon, himself guitarist (who played many years
with the accordionist Maurice Vittenet, Jo Privat).
He had many musicals influences. From jazz fusion to bop, including flamenco, classic and hard rock, he played with
some musicians as different as Yoshko Seffer, Alain Caron, Florin Niculescu, Laurent Korcia...
But his first love was always the gipsy guitar, and Latcho Drom (meaning "have a good journey" in manouche language)
is the realisation of his dream  to create the Hot Club de France sounds of Grappelli and Reinhardt's famous quintet.

Latcho drom was formed in the French town of Toulouse in 1993 by the gipsy guitarist Christophe LARTILLEUX,
in order to revive the atmosphere of the famous Django REINHARDT Hot Club de France Quintet with
Stéphane Grappelli or Gus Viseur...Christophe, surrounded himself with young talended jazz musicians, impassioned
by Django’ music, with his acoustic band, he revives the sound and the swing of those times, (especially by using the
famous Selmer guitars), while developing his own personality and originality. Immediately the group was extremely
successful, and has never stopped performing all over the world.

After a first CD “la sorcière”(The Witch), wich was choosen as one of the best CD’s of 1995 by Jazz Magazine,

the released “la verdine”(The Caravan) in which more than half of the titles are their own compositions.

“La Verdine” (composed by christophe) is in two compilations, “guitars attitudes”(13 bis Records) and “The Best

of Gipsy Swing”(Hot Club Records Norway).

After many tours in France and World, they released their third cd “live in Madrid” record at Café Central

june 1997, wich shows perfectly the qualities of this musicians: Energy, talent, musicality, humour and formost
a tremendous willingness to play, to give to offer their music to the public…

" Lartilleux, creates incisive, driving, innovative solos that propel the band to hard swinging peaks.
But the group isn't  merely a showpiece for it's lead guitarist. All in all, this is one of the hightest bands
I have heard in a long time !
Michael DREGNI - VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE (USA).
"
One of the most original bands booked at Café Central stage for 15 years !
They are worthy heirs of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.

         LE MONDE.

"At the crossroad of Jazz, traditional eastern folk music and "musette",
the musicians of Latcho Drom know how to play the classics of the genre beautifully,
as well as playing their own compositions, which testifies to the exceptional
         quality of this amalgamation"
         L'HEBDO.

"This beautifully cd (La Verdine) contitutes a real event..without copying the
cliches and stock phrases of their idols, the musicians of Latcho Drom have miraculously
caught the spirit of such a specific language, expressing it with a great ease".
         Alain ANTONIETTO - ETUDES TZIGANES.

"It's not Django ! It's not Stéphane ! But these young people have plucked their soul !"
         Michel LAVERDURE - JAZZ MAGAZINE.

"As in the years before the guest list was prestigious. Latcho Drom, who had conquered  the Gipsy-phile public of
Samois in one minute, won over the Pays Basque audience with a stroke of guitar and violin"
         Michel BEDIN - JAZZ HOT.

"Through  the freshness of the inspirations of their soloists, Latcho Drom revives the breath that this music had lost"

"This was hot swing jazz of impeccable grace, style and subtlety. In fact I don't think I've been to a concert of such
infectious joy and sheer pleasure in music making for some time. Those guys from the southern French City of Toulouse
are instant communicators,, dashing off tunes that are filled with colour and happiness."

                                                                   Latcho Drom (Déborah).

This album marks the fourth release by the French Gypsy jazz band Latcho Drom. Some of the band members

have changed with time, but the music they create remains true to the vision of Manouche guitarist/bandleader

       Christophe Lartilleux.

On this album, the band has steered away from some of the fascinating Gypsy jazz versions of straight jazz

classics by Duke Ellington and Dizzie Gillespie that have graced its past CDs, and stepped back to the heart of

       music.

The 10 cuts include three originals composed by Lartilleux that blend funky mixes of bebop and modern jazz

with Gypsy stylings. The band’s reworking of “la Verdine” evokes the eastern European Gypsy roots of their music

in the accordeon playing of guest Guennadi Kopeika.

Other songs include Jo Privat’s musette “Papillon noir”, the standard  “la vie en rose”, and two revivals of old

Django Reinhardt classics “Anouman”, and one of his improvisations.

While the production quality is sometimes a bit thin, the music is phenomenal. Lartilleux attacks his Selmer

with a daredevil dash and violinist Malik Richeux fuses a world of sounds – from North African melodies to swing

to Gypsy stylings – into his playing.
